Shopify builds that hold up under real volume

Builds, replatforms and ongoing support for stores that have outgrown a template and cannot afford a bad migration.

What this is

Most stores that come to me are not broken. They are slow, over-extended with apps nobody can account for, and held together by one person who is tired of it.

The work starts with evidence. What the store actually costs to run, where customers actually drop out, and which of those is worth fixing first.

You deal with me throughout. There is no account manager, and the person who scopes the work is the person who does it.

Scale
200m+ Units a year processed on platforms I ran as IT Director at World of Books.
Growth
1% to 55% Share of £120m group turnover moved to the direct channel I built, from £100k to £4.7m a month.
Proof
£1.5m Turnover at Audio Trader within two years of founding, on a platform I built.

How it runs

If you are turning over under £250k, a Shopify partner agency on a fixed template will serve you better and cost less. Say so on the call and I will point you at one.

  1. Step 01

    Look at the evidence first

Analytics, server logs, app spend and the checkout funnel, before any opinion about the design. Most of the value in the first fortnight is finding out which assumption is wrong.

  2. Step 02

    Agree what success is worth

A number, agreed in writing, that the work is measured against. Conversion rate, page load, hours saved a week. If a change cannot be tied to one of those, it is not in scope.

  3. Step 03

Build in stages you can stop

Work ships in pieces that stand on their own, so the project can pause at the end of any stage without leaving the store half-migrated.

  4. Step 04

    Cutover around trading

Migrations run when your customers are not buying, with a rollback plan written and agreed before anything moves. The plan usually goes unused, which is the point.

  5. Step 05

    Hand it over properly

Documentation your next developer can read and training for the people using it daily. You should not need me on a retainer unless you want one.

Replaced the eBay publisher behind 36,000 live listings in 15 days, before the old one switched off

A specialist retailer of original cinema posters and physical media, with 36,000 live eBay listings routed through a third-party publisher that announced it was closing. I built Overlook, the inventory and listing system that took over publishing and order routing, and landed the switch two days before the deadline.
